How we moderate

The floor

No hate speech, no profanity, no defamatory claims. Every post is signed in. Removed posts stay visible as a placeholder with a reason and a 7-day appeal window. The full policy: /policy.

• No hate speech. Slurs, dehumanizing language, and calls for violence against a protected class are removed.
• No profanity. Posts laced with profanity are routed to the moderation queue as well — clean language keeps the discussion readable for everyone.
• No defamatory claims presented as fact.Disagreements are welcome; allegations about a specific person need evidence.

The appeal window

Every removed post leaves a visible placeholder — never silent removal. The placeholder shows the reason category, the moderator's rationale, and the deadline for an appeal. You have seven days to appeal.

• 7 days — open window after a removal.
• 72 hours — moderator decision SLA once you appeal.

Removed posts keep their original writing in the audit trail. If the appeal succeeds, the post is reinstated in place — alongside a one-line note from the deciding moderator.

Cross-moderator review

We do not let a moderator decide their own appeals. When you submit an appeal, it goes to every active administrator except the moderator who removed the post. A second pair of eyes decides — the original moderator's vote is automatically excluded.

Accountability

The ModAction record, the appeal, and the reinstatement note (if any) are all preserved, even when a post is reinstated. The audit trail is the point — it shows future readers how a decision was reached, not just the final state.
